WHERE TO FIND HELP WITH VETERINARY COSTS...

Although in a perfect world all domestic pets would be insured, in reality this just isn't the case and so you may need financial help to cover veterinary bills for neutering, microchipping and for emergencies.

FREE INSURANCE!

WOULD FOUR WEEKS FREE INSURANCE HELP?

If the answer is yes please telephone PetPlan on

0800 197 9017 and quote our PetPlan reference number 1300033532 to claim your free four weeks insurance.

This, at the very least, will allow you the time to compare prices for pet insurance. Please make sure that you compare like with like as cover does vary significantly between companies. PetPlan is good value for money and provides excellent cover and is the insurance company we, as a charity, would recommend.

HERE ARE SOME MORE USEFUL LINKS - HOPE THESE  HELP...

If you are having problems in paying your veterinary bills then it's worth contacting the following animal charities who may be able to offer some help:-

You may be eligable for financial help with the 'People's Dispensary for Sick Animals' if you:-

  • Live in the catchment area of a pdsa PetAid hospital or a practice service;and
  • Receive either Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit.

  • The Blue Cross you can contact on

www.bluecross.org.uk

The eligibility rules are much wider with the Blue Cross who will always try to treat pets where the owners can't afford private veterinary treatment.

To claim you must be receiving a means tested benefit or be on a low income. In more detail, you will need to be in reciept of least one of the following:-

Housing Benefit; Council Tax Benefit; Income Support; Working Tax Credit; Job Seekers Allowance; State Retirement or be on low income.

As their priorities are neutering and microchipping you may be eligible for help with these costs. A £30 neutering voucher is available for people on any means tested benefit:-

Housing benefit; Council Tax Benefit; Income Support; Working Tax Credit; Job Seekers Allowance or Pension Credit.

Dogs Trust also have an emergency fund available for dealing with dogs that have been involved in accidents and have to be treated as an emergency case.

£5 neutering vouchers for cats are available if you are in receipt of any of the following:-

State Benefits; State Pension; Housing Benefit or Council Tax Credit.

You are also eligible if you are a student or have a multi cat household - over three cats. And your cat does not need to have come from CP...this is a great deal! All it will cost you is £5.

Finding payment for those unexpected accidents can be difficult if your animal is not insured. Your animals needs must come first. Therefore it is worth asking your veterinary practice if you can pay weekly or perhaps monthly on an easy payment plan of some kind.

There are many animal welfare organisations who are willing to help in any way they can, so please do not resort to putting your animal to sleep or to abandoning it - ask for help!
